How to install SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 (Step-by-step with pictures)

In this article we will see how to install SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7. To install you will need SQL server 2008 copy. Follow the steps bellow.

Step 1: Double click on SQL Server 2008 image or installer. It will open following window.

Step 2: Click on "Installation" (left site) and then click on "New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation".

Note: Following window may appear in Windows 7 therefore click on "Run Program".

Step 3: Now setup will perform Setup Support Rule operation so wait for while and then click on OK.

Step 4: Now click on Install to install setup support files. After that click Next. (Ignore Windows Firewall Warning)

Step 5: Enter the product key if you have any and then click on Next.

Step 6: Click on checkbox to accept license agreement and then click Next.

Step 7: Select features which you want. I'm selecting all features. After that click on Next.

Step 8: Here you can change the name and instance ID if you want. I'm leaving it as it is as I can remember it better. After that click on Next.

Step 9: Now Disk Space requirement window will appear. Click on Next to continue.

Step 10: Now Server Configuration Window will appear. Set the account name for the services. You can use the same account for all the services. Here I set the account name NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. Now click on Next to continue.

Step 11: Choose the Authentication mode. Here I have chosen "Mixed Mode". Enter your password. Add your current admin account and then click on next.

Step 12: Again add current user account and then click on next.

Step 13: Error and Uses Reporting window will appear. Check the boxes it if you want or leave it as it is and then click on Next.

Step 14: Now "Installation Rule" operation window will appear. It must be Passed or skipped. After that click on Next.

Step 15: "Ready to Install" window will appear. Click on "Install".

Step 16: After installation complete click on Next.

Step 17: Finally your installation is complete. Click on "Close" to exit the installer.
